Job Purpose

The Nutrition Officer provides professional technical, operational, and administrative assistance across the entire programming process for nutrition initiatives within the Child Nutrition and Development Section of the Country Programme. This encompasses activities from initial development planning through to the successful delivery of results. The role involves executing diverse technical and administrative tasks to facilitate robust programme development, effective implementation, diligent progress monitoring, thorough evaluation, and comprehensive reporting of outcomes. These efforts are crucial for achieving the section's nutrition service delivery outputs, specifically targeting the prevention and management of severe wasting, ensuring vitamin A supplementation, optimizing nutrition supply chain management, delivering community and school nutrition services, and responding to nutrition needs in emergency contexts.

Responsibilities

The Nutrition Officer will provide comprehensive support to programme development and planning, contributing to the formulation of strategic frameworks, annual work plans, and detailed operational strategies for nutrition interventions. This includes conducting assessments, analyzing data, and identifying priorities to ensure programmes are evidence-based and contextually relevant. A key responsibility involves robust programme management, monitoring, and the delivery of results, which entails tracking implementation progress, managing budgets, and ensuring adherence to UNICEF standards and donor requirements. The officer will also provide critical technical and operational support to programme implementation, assisting in the deployment of interventions, resolving operational bottlenecks, and ensuring quality assurance. Furthermore, the role emphasizes networking and partnership building, fostering strong collaborations with government counterparts, civil society organizations, UN agencies, and other stakeholders to leverage resources and maximize programme impact. Finally, the officer is expected to drive innovation, contribute to knowledge management by documenting best practices and lessons learned, and actively participate in capacity building initiatives for national and sub-national partners, enhancing their ability to deliver effective nutrition services.

Work Experience

At least 2 years of relevant work experience in a developing country is required. This experience should be in one or more of the following areas: nutrition, public health, or nutrition planning and management.
