Job Purpose
The Regional Staff Counsellor (P-4) for the Latin America and Caribbean region is responsible for developing and implementing a corporate framework focused on staff well-being. This role aims to enhance awareness of healthy work practices, improve work-life balance, and provide crucial assistance to staff and their families facing personal or work-related challenges. A key function is to ensure immediate support is available following traumatic incidents, which is particularly vital given the region's susceptibility to emergencies. The counsellor will collaborate with a global network of UN counsellors, conduct frequent field missions and virtual sessions, and maintain close partnerships with Country Offices to deliver comprehensive support and foster a supportive work environment.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement a regional framework for staff well-being, encompassing awareness campaigns on healthy work practices and work-life balance initiatives. Provide direct counselling and support services to UNICEF staff and their families, addressing work-related and personal issues. Offer immediate psychological support to staff affected by traumatic incidents, particularly in emergency contexts prevalent in the region. Collaborate with the global network of UN Staff Counsellors to share best practices and ensure consistent service delivery. Conduct regular field missions and virtual sessions to reach staff across various country offices. Liaise closely with Country Office management and HR focal points to identify staff needs and facilitate access to support services. Contribute to the development of policies and guidelines related to staff mental health and well-being. Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in all counselling activities. Participate in training and professional development to stay abreast of the latest developments in counselling and trauma support.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in staff counselling, mental health support, or a related field, with experience in a multicultural or international setting being an asset. Experience in crisis intervention and trauma support is essential.
