Job Purpose
The Innovation Manager (Design & Connect) provides strategic leadership for the Design & Connect pillar within the Office of Innovation (OOI). This role is responsible for setting strategic direction, offering design leadership, and fostering connective capacity across OOI's initiatives. The position combines high-level strategic leadership, effective people management, and direct advisory support. The Innovation Manager will play a crucial role in advancing UNICEF's innovation agenda by focusing on design-led country engagement, robust applied innovation governance, and the development of dynamic innovation ecosystems. This involves both managing time-bound acceleration engagements and contributing to longer-term ecosystem-building efforts, ultimately aiming to enhance UNICEF's ability to deliver innovative solutions for children worldwide.
Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Design & Connect pillar, ensuring alignment with OOI's overall objectives and UNICEF's mission. Lead and manage a team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment. Oversee the design and implementation of innovation projects and initiatives, ensuring they are child-centered and evidence-based. Drive design-led country engagement strategies, working closely with country offices to identify needs and co-create solutions. Develop and strengthen innovation ecosystems by engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including governments, private sector partners, academia, and civil society. Establish and manage applied innovation governance frameworks to ensure effective decision-making and resource allocation. Monitor and evaluate the progress and impact of innovation activities, providing regular reports and recommendations for improvement. Facilitate knowledge sharing and learning across UNICEF on innovation best practices and emerging trends. Represent OOI in relevant forums and contribute to the development of UNICEF's global innovation strategy. Manage budgets and resources allocated to the Design & Connect pillar effectively.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of professional experience in innovation management, design thinking, programme management, or a related field, with at least two years at the international level. Experience in developing and managing innovation ecosystems and partnerships is essential. Experience working with UN agencies or international organizations is desirable.
