Job Purpose
The Child Protection Officer provides technical, operational, and administrative assistance for child protection programs, from planning to results achievement. This role involves conducting situation analyses for program design, contributing to sector objectives, and providing technical and operational support throughout the planning stages, including Results-Based Management (RBM). The officer will prepare necessary program documents, materials, and data. Collaboration with partners on implementation issues, participation in monitoring and evaluation exercises, and oversight of program resource utilization are key. Ensuring compliance with regulations and preparing regular program/project sector reports are also essential functions. The position requires regular field visits to provide technical support and assist partners in implementing UNICEF policies.
Responsibilities
The Child Protection Officer is responsible for supporting the development and planning of child protection programs, including conducting situation analyses and defining sector objectives. They provide technical and operational support throughout the planning process, utilizing Results-Based Management (RBM) principles, and prepare required program documents, materials, and data. In terms of program management, monitoring, and results achievement, the officer collaborates with partners on implementation, participates in monitoring and evaluation activities, and oversees the utilization of program resources while ensuring compliance with rules and regulations. Regular preparation of required program/project sector reports is also a key responsibility. The role involves providing technical and operational support for program implementation, including conducting regular field visits and offering technical assistance. Furthermore, the officer supports partners (government, NGOs, UN) in applying UNICEF policies. Networking and partnership building are crucial, involving close collaboration with national authorities and stakeholders, participation in inter-agency meetings to harmonize strategies, and preparing resource mobilization and advocacy materials. Finally, the position contributes to innovation, knowledge management, and capacity building by identifying, synthesizing, and sharing lessons learned, promoting innovative approaches and best practices, and participating in capacity-building initiatives.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of professional experience in child protection, social development, or a related field. Experience in program planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation is required. Experience working with UN agencies or international organizations is an asset.
