Job Purpose
The consultant will strengthen the statistical accuracy and relevance of products derived from the national sanitation data system (BaSIS) in Ghana. This involves enhancing the system's capacity to collect, analyze, and consolidate routine data on sanitation at community and district levels. The goal is to improve the reliability of information on sanitation interventions, enabling better assessment of their effectiveness. By improving data quality and accessibility, the consultant will support evidence-based advocacy, system strengthening, and integrated programming within the WASH sector, ultimately contributing to UNICEF's mission of ensuring every child survives and thrives in a safe and clean environment.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement methodologies to enhance the statistical accuracy and relevance of data within the Basic Sanitation Information System (BaSIS). Conduct a comprehensive review of the current BaSIS data collection, analysis, and reporting processes to identify gaps and areas for improvement. Provide technical guidance and training to Environmental Health Officers and other relevant personnel on data management best practices, statistical analysis, and the use of BaSIS. Strengthen the capacity of the system to consolidate data from district levels, ensuring consistency and comparability. Develop standardized data quality assurance protocols and tools to ensure the integrity and reliability of sanitation data. Generate regular reports and analytical products from BaSIS that accurately reflect the progress of sanitation interventions and inform decision-making. Collaborate with government counterparts and UNICEF WASH programme staff to ensure the integration of BaSIS data into broader WASH sector strategies and reporting frameworks. Support the use of BaSIS data for evidence-based advocacy and policy development related to sanitation in Ghana. Contribute to the development of innovative approaches for data visualization and dissemination to a wider audience. Document all processes, methodologies, and recommendations for future reference and sustainability of the system.
Work Experience
At least five years of professional experience in data management, statistical analysis, and information systems, preferably in the WASH sector or public health. Experience with developing and implementing data collection and analysis tools is essential.
