Job Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to provide technical and related support on the implementation of play-based learning through the Foundation Phase Initiative (FPI). This will be done within the Directorate: Curriculum Implementation and Quality Improvement of the Department of Basic Education (DBE), under the supervision of the Director: Curriculum Implementation and Quality Improvement (GET) and the Education Specialist (UNICEF). The consultant will support the DBE with the absorption and integration of the FPI, focusing on manipulatives and play-based pedagogies within the DBE and Provincial Education Departments. The role involves providing technical support for the implementation of play-based pedagogies in the National Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement for Grades R to 3 (CAPS), and assisting staff with the optimal utilization of the P.L.A.Y. online in-service training.
Responsibilities
The consultant will provide technical support for the implementation, quality assurance, and monitoring of play-based learning in the Foundation Phase (Grades R to 3). This includes supporting the Department of Basic Education with the absorption and integration of the Foundation Phase Initiative (FPI) on the use of manipulatives and play-based pedagogies within the Department of Basic Education and Provincial Education Departments. The consultant will also provide technical support for the implementation of the Foundation Phase Initiative (FPI) with a particular emphasis on the use of play-based pedagogies in the implementation of the National Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement for Grades R to 3 (CAPS). Furthermore, the consultant will provide technical support to the staff in the Directorate: Curriculum Implementation and Quality Improvement on the implementation of the learning through play and the optimal utilization of the P.L.A.Y. online in-service training for Grades R to 3. Finally, the consultant will assist the Director: Curriculum Implementation and Quality Improvement (GET) at the DBE in the preparation of technical reports for submission to the HEDCOM, CEM, and Parliament on the areas mentioned above.
