Job Purpose
Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Education Specialist (Access and Inclusion), UNICEF Kenya Country Office, the Inclusive Education Consultant will provide time-bound technical and practical implementation-related support, alongside the delivery of clearly defined outputs, in support of UNICEF Kenya’s Inclusive Education and Access portfolio under Education Output 2.1. This role is crucial for advancing UNICEF's mission to ensure that all children, especially those with disabilities, have access to quality education and can fulfill their potential. The consultant will contribute to the strategic direction and operationalization of inclusive education initiatives within Kenya, aligning with global best practices and national priorities.
Responsibilities
The Inclusive Education Consultant will be responsible for providing technical and practical implementation support for UNICEF Kenya’s Inclusive Education and Access portfolio. This includes contributing to the development and execution of strategies aimed at enhancing inclusive education practices within schools and communities. The consultant will work closely with government counterparts, civil society organizations, and schools to foster an environment where children with disabilities are fully included and supported. Key responsibilities will involve providing technical inputs to education policy, assessment, and data-related processes, ensuring that inclusive education principles are integrated. The consultant will also support teacher education initiatives and engage with communities to build capacity and awareness around inclusive education. This role requires collaboration with various stakeholders to achieve clearly defined outputs and contribute to the overall success of UNICEF's inclusive education programming in Kenya.
Work Experience
5 years of professional experience in social or international development. Demonstrated experience in inclusive education and/or disability inclusion programming; experience in teacher education is an asset. Experience providing technical inputs to education policy, assessment, or data related processes. Experience working with communities, schools and civil society, and government counterparts.
