Job Purpose
UNICEF Ethiopia is initiating multiple construction and rehabilitation projects, including health facilities, WASH facilities, and schools. With limited in-house oversight for these numerous ongoing and upcoming projects, there is an urgent need to augment the team. This role will provide essential coordination and supervision of construction works to ensure UNICEF's direct oversight and adherence to quality standards. The consultant will play a crucial role in managing the day-to-day activities, coordinating stakeholders, and ensuring that projects are completed on time and to the agreed specifications, contributing significantly to the successful delivery of vital infrastructure for children and communities.
Responsibilities
The Construction Consultant will be responsible for providing day-to-day coordination and supervision of all UNICEF construction and rehabilitation works in Amhara. This includes coordinating the activities of various implementation stakeholders involved in the construction and rehabilitation of EU-funded Health facilities and JICA-funded Schools. The consultant will also coordinate GPE-STEP construction-related activities, which involves reviewing assessment and design submittals from the LTA engineering services contractor. A key responsibility will be supporting the solicitation of construction contractors and ensuring that all UNICEF-supported constructions and rehabilitations are executed in line with agreed terms regarding time and quality. The role also entails facilitating site progress meetings, reporting findings to the Construction Manager, and supporting quality supervision throughout the construction and rehabilitation phases of all assigned projects.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in construction supervision, project management, and coordination of infrastructure projects is required. Experience with international organizations or in developing countries is an asset.
