Job Purpose
The Director, Division of Global Communication and Advocacy, will lead UNICEF's efforts to shape and amplify its global voice on child rights. This role is critical in navigating an increasingly complex world where children's rights are under severe threat from poverty, conflict, climate change, and emerging digital risks. The Director will be responsible for developing and implementing innovative communication and advocacy strategies that effectively convey UNICEF's mission, impact, and comparative advantages to diverse global audiences. This includes leveraging research, evidence, and hands-on experience to influence policy, mobilize support, and drive progress on child survival, development, protection, and resilience. The position requires a visionary leader to ensure UNICEF remains at the forefront of advocating for children's rights in the face of unprecedented global challenges.
Responsibilities
Lead the development and execution of UNICEF's global communication and advocacy strategies, ensuring alignment with the organization's mission and priorities. Oversee the Division of Global Communication and Advocacy, managing staff, resources, and operations to achieve strategic objectives. Shape and enhance UNICEF's global narrative on child rights, addressing emerging threats such as climate change, conflict, and digital exploitation. Drive innovative communication approaches, including digital and multimedia platforms, to reach diverse audiences and stakeholders worldwide. Foster strategic partnerships with governments, civil society, media, and other UN agencies to amplify UNICEF's advocacy efforts. Provide strategic guidance and support to country offices and regional offices on communication and advocacy initiatives. Ensure effective crisis communication and rapid response mechanisms are in place to address urgent child rights issues. Monitor and evaluate the impact of communication and advocacy campaigns, adapting strategies based on evidence and evolving global contexts. Represent UNICEF in high-level forums, conferences, and media engagements, acting as a key spokesperson. Manage the division's budget and ensure efficient resource allocation to maximize impact.
Work Experience
A minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible professional experience in strategic communication, public advocacy, and leadership roles, with at least 5 years at a senior management level. Experience in international development, humanitarian affairs, or child rights advocacy is highly desirable.
