Job Purpose
The Senior Driver, G-3, provides high-level, secure, and professional driving services to the Head of Office (HoE) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This role extends beyond basic transportation, requiring strong coordination with internal and external stakeholders, a thorough understanding of diplomatic and UN protocol, proficiency in digital tracking systems, and a client-service orientation. The Senior Driver also offers basic administrative and logistical support and contributes to the professional development of other drivers. This position demands a client-oriented approach, a high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact, and the ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds, ensuring the safety and efficiency of all transportation and related support functions.
Responsibilities
The Senior Driver is responsible for providing reliable and safe driving services, transporting the Head of Office to official appointments, meetings, and field missions with punctuality and discretion. This includes safely transporting senior guests, external dignitaries, and partners when requested, and meeting staff, senior personnel, and visitors at the airport, assisting with basic visa, access, and customs formalities. The role requires the ability to quickly adjust routes and schedules in response to security needs, road closures, or protocol changes. Effective coordination with the Administration Unit, UNDSS, security escorts, field teams, and airport protocol staff is crucial. The Senior Driver must maintain full confidentiality of sensitive information. Regular vehicle checks, maintenance, and ensuring the vehicle's professional appearance are essential. Accurate recording of trips in logbooks and immediate reporting of mechanical issues or accidents are required. Proficiency in operating Vehicle Tracking Systems (VTS), the UN Mobility Booking Tool, and communication devices (VHF/HF radio, mobile phones) is necessary. Additionally, the Senior Driver will provide administrative and logistical support, including document delivery and assistance during emergency response operations.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of relevant professional driving experience is required, preferably with international organizations or diplomatic missions. Experience in vehicle maintenance and basic administrative support is advantageous.
