Job Purpose
The Chief, Child Nutrition and Development reports to the Deputy Representative and is responsible for managing and supervising all stages of the nutrition programme, from strategic planning and formulation to the delivery of results. This role involves leading and managing the Nutrition team, ensuring close coordination and collaboration with the Health Programme team during both planning and implementation. The Chief is accountable for achieving concrete and sustainable results in maternal, infant, and child nutrition programmes, aligning with plans, results-based management approaches, UNICEF’s Strategic Plans, performance standards, and accountability framework. The position requires a strategic approach to programme development, management, monitoring, and quality control, alongside providing advisory services, technical support, and fostering advocacy, networking, and partnership building.
Responsibilities
The Chief, Child Nutrition and Development is responsible for providing managerial leadership to the Nutrition team, driving programme development and strategic planning in line with UNICEF's goals. Key accountabilities include the effective management, monitoring, and quality control of nutrition programme results, ensuring alignment with results-based management (RBM) principles and UNICEF's strategic objectives. The role involves delivering advisory services and technical support to stakeholders, advocating for child nutrition policies, and building strong partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and other UN entities. Furthermore, the Chief will be responsible for fostering innovation, managing knowledge, and building the capacity of staff and partners in the field of child nutrition. This includes overseeing the implementation of programmes, ensuring timely reporting, and contributing to the overall health and well-being of children in Bangladesh, with a particular focus on maternal, infant, and child nutrition.
Work Experience
A minimum of ten years of professional experience in a developing country/development/humanitarian setting is required, with a focus on nutrition, public health, nutrition planning and management, or maternal, infant, and child health/nutrition care.
