Job Purpose

The Senior Advisor (Economic & Social Policy and Gender Equality) provides high-level strategic leadership to advance gender-sensitive economic and social policies, such as child poverty reduction and social protection, while ensuring the systematic integration of gender equality and adolescent girls' empowerment across all initiatives. This role is crucial for advancing UNICEF’s mission centered on equity and inclusion, directly contributing to the Strategic Plan 2026–2029, specifically Impact Result #3, which aims to enable 33 million young people to access economic opportunities. The position bridges economic justice and gender equality for children and women, driving transformative policy and ensuring UNICEF's support is grounded in practical knowledge and evidence-based solutions.

Responsibilities

The Senior Advisor will lead transformative policy by bridging economic justice and gender equality for children and women. Key functions include providing high-level technical guidance to Country and Regional Offices, ensuring gender equality is integrated into economic and social policy programming from design to implementation. The role involves shaping UNICEF's positioning by translating evidence into influential policy narratives, building strategic partnerships, and advising on integrating gender equality into government and UN systems. Furthermore, the incumbent will lead analysis on the gender dimensions of economic policy to establish UNICEF as a thought leader and scale up innovative, evidence-based practices. This includes facilitating technical exchanges and leading capacity initiatives to build coherence and excellence in gender equality and adolescent girls' programming across the organization. The Senior Advisor will also ensure accountability to the UNICEF Gender Action Plan by leading technical inputs into country programmes, monitoring systems, and results frameworks, and serving as a dedicated focal point for a portfolio of country offices.

Work Experience

A minimum of eight years of progressively responsible professional experience in economic and social policy, gender equality programming, or related fields, with a significant focus on policy analysis, advocacy, and programme development. Experience in international development or humanitarian contexts is desirable.
