Driver
Organizational Context
The Driver is supervised by the Administrative Officer/Associate/Assistant or another staff member. The role involves driving UNHCR vehicles for official purposes, ensuring vehicle maintenance, and adhering to strict security guidelines. The incumbent interacts with internal staff and external stakeholders, including partners and government authorities.
Job Purpose
The Driver's primary purpose is to operate UNHCR vehicles safely and efficiently for transporting authorized passengers, delivering and collecting documents, and other official duties. This includes meeting personnel at airports, facilitating immigration and customs, and ensuring vehicles are roadworthy and maintained to security standards. The role also involves performing minor repairs, arranging for major repairs, and maintaining vehicle cleanliness. The Driver must meticulously log all trips, mileage, and fuel consumption, and strictly follow security instructions from supervisors and security focal points. Additionally, the Driver is responsible for ensuring all necessary documentation for passengers and cargo is valid and in order, and for supporting risk management by identifying and reporting potential issues.
Responsibilities
The Driver is responsible for operating UNHCR vehicles for the transport of authorized passengers, delivering and collecting documents, and other items. This includes meeting official personnel at airports or other locations and facilitating immigration and customs formalities. A key responsibility is performing day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles, including checking oil, water, battery, and brakes, to ensure they are roadworthy and meet established security standards. The Driver will also perform minor repairs, arrange for other repairs, and maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle. In the event of an accident, the Driver must ensure all required steps according to rules, regulations, and local procedures are taken. Accurate logging of official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, and maintenance activities is essential. Strict adherence to instructions and security guidance from the supervisor and security focal point is mandatory. The Driver must also ensure that all documentation for passengers, items, or cargo in the vehicle is valid. Furthermore, the role involves supporting the identification and management of risks and opportunities impacting the area of responsibility, making risk-based decisions, and raising concerns to a supervisor or relevant colleagues. Other related duties as required are also part of the responsibilities.
