Job Purpose
The Senior Energy Associate will be responsible for supporting UNHCR's efforts in the energy sector, particularly in refugee operations. This role involves contributing to the development and implementation of energy strategies, policies, and projects aimed at improving access to sustainable and affordable energy for refugees and host communities. The associate will work closely with various stakeholders, including government bodies, NGOs, private sector partners, and other UN agencies, to ensure energy initiatives align with broader humanitarian and development goals. The position requires a strong understanding of energy systems, renewable energy technologies, and energy access challenges in displacement settings, with a focus on promoting energy independence and reducing environmental impact.
Responsibilities
The Senior Energy Associate will be instrumental in advancing UNHCR's energy agenda within refugee operations. Key responsibilities include providing technical expertise and guidance on energy-related matters, such as renewable energy deployment, energy efficiency measures, and clean cooking solutions. The associate will support the planning, design, and execution of energy projects, ensuring they are contextually appropriate, sustainable, and meet the needs of beneficiaries. This involves conducting needs assessments, feasibility studies, and impact evaluations. Furthermore, the role requires fostering partnerships with national governments, local authorities, private sector entities, and civil society organizations to mobilize resources and expertise for energy initiatives. The associate will also contribute to policy development, advocacy efforts, and the dissemination of best practices in energy access for displaced populations. Monitoring project progress, managing budgets, and reporting on outcomes are also crucial aspects of this position, ensuring accountability and effective resource utilization.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in the energy sector, with a focus on renewable energy, energy access, or sustainable energy solutions. Experience working in humanitarian or development contexts, particularly with displaced populations, is highly desirable.
