Job Purpose
The Senior Finance Assistant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records for assigned project or office accounts. This includes meticulously recording receipts and payments, ensuring computational accuracy and document completeness, and monitoring allotment statuses against obligations. The role involves preparing regular reports on account statuses, highlighting any cost overruns or lower-than-expected receipts, and generating special reports as needed. Additionally, the incumbent will assist in calculating cost estimates, projecting budget requirements, and preparing budget statements for their area of assignment. This position requires proactive engagement with various stakeholders to clarify financial data, answer queries, and obtain necessary information, ensuring the smooth operation of financial processes within UNHCR.
Responsibilities
The Senior Finance Assistant will maintain financial records for assigned project or office accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Responsibilities include recording receipts and payments, verifying computations, and managing allotments against obligations. The role involves preparing recurring and special financial reports, identifying and explaining any discrepancies or issues. The incumbent will also assist in calculating cost estimates, projecting budget needs, and preparing budget statements. Maintaining routine correspondence and liaising with internal staff and external bank officials to discuss account matters and clarify queries are key duties. Furthermore, the Senior Finance Assistant will brief and assist new staff on basic financial procedures, entitlements, and banking requirements. A crucial aspect involves initiating correspondence to verify data, respond to inquiries, and gather additional financial information. The role also includes supporting risk management by identifying and managing risks and opportunities impacting the area of responsibility, ensuring risk-based decision-making, and escalating concerns to supervisors.
Work Experience
2 years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma, or 1 year of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
