Job Purpose
The Associate External Relations Officer supports UNHCR's operations by implementing a communications strategy to garner support from external partners, including governments, media, donors, NGOs, and the general public. The officer will assist in engaging with donors and embassies, providing essential information on operations and funding needs through briefings and meetings. A key responsibility involves disseminating information on UNHCR's global funding situation and actively seeking additional funds to support programs aimed at improving protection for displaced and stateless individuals within the country. The position also contributes to inter-agency cooperation and communication efforts, ensuring effective information flow and alignment with corporate priorities.
Responsibilities
The Associate External Relations Officer is responsible for assisting in the implementation of a communications strategy to generate support from external partners, including governments, media, donors, NGOs, and the general public. This involves supporting dialogue with donors and embassies, providing operational and financial information through briefings and meetings, and responding to ad hoc information requests. The role contributes to mobilizing additional funds by disseminating information on UNHCR's global funding situation and supporting projects that enhance protection for displaced and stateless persons. The officer will assist in drafting situation reports, briefing notes, fact sheets, press releases, and articles, as well as narrative and financial reports for donors, ensuring compliance with specific requirements. Monitoring the earmarking of funds and ensuring appropriate donor visibility are also key duties. The position involves representing UNHCR in inter-agency cooperation and communication initiatives, managing information flows within country operations, and identifying priority messages for campaigns and appeals. Proposing and executing events to promote UNHCR's work, supporting media relations by responding to queries and organizing briefings, and promoting visibility through web content are also part of the responsibilities. The officer will organize field missions and press briefings, implement communication strategies, and support risk management by identifying and reporting potential issues.
Work Experience
Essential experience in humanitarian operations in a field environment. Desirable experience in fundraising, programming/programme management, and working with social media.
