Organizational Context
The Driver is part of the UNHCR Office in Khartoum, Sudan, reporting to the Administrative Officer or a designated supervisor. The role involves driving UNHCR vehicles for official purposes, ensuring vehicle maintenance, and adhering to strict security protocols. The incumbent interacts with internal staff and external stakeholders, including partners and government authorities.
Job Purpose
The primary purpose of the Driver position is to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of authorized passengers, documents, and other items using UNHCR vehicles. This includes performing routine maintenance and minor repairs to keep vehicles in roadworthy condition and ensuring compliance with all relevant security guidelines and regulations. The Driver is responsible for maintaining accurate logs of trips, mileage, and fuel consumption. Additionally, the role involves assisting with immigration and customs formalities for official personnel and ensuring that all necessary documentation for passengers and cargo is valid. The Driver must also be vigilant in identifying and managing risks related to their duties and reporting any issues to their supervisor, contributing to the overall operational safety and efficiency of the UNHCR office.
Responsibilities
The Driver is responsible for operating UNHCR vehicles to transport authorized passengers, deliver, and collect documents and other items. A key duty is to meet official personnel at airports or other locations and facilitate immigration and customs formalities as needed. The incumbent must perform daily maintenance of assigned vehicles, including checking essential components like oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires, to ensure they are roadworthy and meet established security standards. Minor repairs are to be conducted by the Driver, and arrangements made for other necessary repairs, while also ensuring the vehicle remains clean. In the event of an accident, the Driver must follow all required procedures and regulations. Accurate logging of official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, and maintenance activities (e.g., oil changes, greasing) is essential. Strict adherence to instructions and security guidance from the supervisor and security focal point is mandatory. The Driver must also ensure that all passengers and cargo have valid documentation. Furthermore, the role includes supporting the identification and management of risks impacting the area of responsibility, making risk-based decisions, and escalating any identified risks, issues, or concerns to the supervisor. Other related duties as required will also be performed.
Work Experience
A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is required for this position.
