Organizational Context

The Driver is part of the UNHCR Office in Khartoum, Sudan, reporting to the Administrative Officer or a designated supervisor. The role involves driving UNHCR vehicles for official purposes, ensuring passenger and cargo safety, and performing basic vehicle maintenance. The incumbent must adhere strictly to UNHCR's security guidelines and operational procedures.

Job Purpose

The primary purpose of the Driver position is to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of authorized passengers, documents, and goods using UNHCR vehicles. This includes providing reliable transport services to UNHCR staff and partners, facilitating airport pickups, and ensuring vehicles are maintained in roadworthy condition according to UNHCR's technical and security standards. The Driver is also responsible for performing minor vehicle repairs, maintaining accurate logs of trips and vehicle usage, and ensuring compliance with all traffic regulations and accident procedures. Adherence to security protocols and support in risk management are integral to the role, contributing to the overall operational effectiveness and safety of the UNHCR office.

Responsibilities

The Driver is responsible for operating UNHCR vehicles to transport authorized passengers, deliver and collect documents, and move goods. A key duty is to meet official personnel at airports and assist with immigration and customs formalities. The incumbent must perform daily checks and basic maintenance on assigned vehicles, including monitoring oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires, to ensure they are safe and compliant with security standards. Minor repairs are to be conducted by the Driver, with arrangements made for more significant repairs, and the vehicle must be kept clean. In the event of an accident, the Driver must follow all required procedures and regulations. Accurate logging of official trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities is essential. Strict adherence to instructions and security guidance from the supervisor and security focal point is mandatory. The Driver must also ensure that all necessary documentation for passengers, items, or cargo is valid. Supporting the identification and management of risks within their area of responsibility and reporting any issues to the supervisor are also part of the role. Additional duties as required by the supervisor are also expected.

Work Experience

A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is required. Essential qualifications include a valid driving license and knowledge of driving rules and regulations.
