Job Purpose
The Electrician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment within UNHCR facilities. This role is crucial for ensuring the reliable and safe operation of power supply, lighting, and other electrical infrastructure essential for UNHCR's operations and the well-being of its staff and the communities it serves. The Electrician will perform a variety of tasks, including troubleshooting electrical issues, conducting routine inspections, and implementing preventive maintenance measures to minimize downtime and prevent hazards. This position requires a skilled professional who can work independently and as part of a team, adhering to safety standards and contributing to the overall functionality of UNHCR's physical environment.
Responsibilities
Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, systems, and fixtures in UNHCR facilities, ensuring compliance with safety codes and standards. Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical problems, identifying faulty equipment or wiring and implementing effective solutions. Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on electrical systems, including generators, lighting, power distribution panels, and other related equipment. Conduct tests and use diagnostic equipment to check the functionality of electrical systems and identify potential issues. Ensure all electrical work is performed safely, following established safety protocols and using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including parts used and time spent. Collaborate with other maintenance staff and departments to coordinate electrical work and ensure minimal disruption to operations. Respond to emergency electrical issues and provide timely repairs to restore power and functionality. Assist in the planning and execution of electrical upgrades or new installations as required. Keep abreast of new technologies and best practices in electrical maintenance and safety. Ensure proper inventory management of electrical supplies and tools.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of progressive experience as an electrician, with a focus on installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems in a professional setting. Experience in a humanitarian or international organization context is an asset.
