Job Purpose
The Electrician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment within UNHCR facilities. This role is crucial for ensuring the reliable and safe operation of power supply, lighting, and other electrical infrastructure essential for UNHCR's operations and the well-being of its staff and the communities it serves. The Electrician will perform a variety of tasks, including troubleshooting electrical issues, conducting routine inspections, and implementing preventive maintenance measures to minimize downtime and prevent hazards. This position requires a skilled professional who can work independently and as part of a team, adhering to safety standards and regulations. The goal is to maintain a safe and functional working environment through expert electrical services.
Responsibilities
Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, systems, and fixtures in UNHCR facilities, ensuring compliance with safety codes and standards. Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical problems, identifying faulty equipment or wiring and implementing effective solutions. Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on electrical systems, including generators, lighting, and power distribution panels, to ensure optimal performance and prevent failures. Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams to guide installation and repair work. Ensure all electrical work is performed safely, using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following established safety protocols. Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including parts used and time spent. Collaborate with other maintenance staff and departments to coordinate electrical work and minimize disruption to operations. Respond promptly to emergency electrical issues and provide timely resolution. Procure necessary electrical supplies and materials, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness. Stay updated on the latest electrical technologies, safety regulations, and best practices relevant to the role.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in electrical installation, maintenance, and repair is required. Experience with low and high voltage systems is essential. Experience in a humanitarian or international organization setting is an advantage.
