Senior Field Assistant
Organizational Context
The Senior Field Assistant operates under the supervision of a Field Officer/Associate, performing various field activities. They engage with internal staff, external officials, refugee leaders, local populations, and Implementing Partners on routine matters, exchanging information and providing assistance.
Job Purpose
The Senior Field Assistant supports UNHCR's field operations by assisting in the monitoring of programme implementation, including the delivery of assistance and infrastructure. They are responsible for administrative tasks, acting as an interpreter for routine information exchange, and collecting and reporting relevant data. The role involves liaising with local authorities and partners, assisting in the reception and registration of persons of concern, and monitoring their situation in camps and other accommodations. They also play a role in identifying and managing risks, and escalating issues that cannot be resolved at their level, ensuring effective support to persons of concern and contributing to the overall objectives of the office.
Responsibilities
Assist in monitoring the implementation of UNHCR programmes, including the delivery of all assistance items and the monitoring of infrastructure. Undertake administrative tasks such as preparing reports and facilitating meetings with authorized personnel, and assisting them during field missions. Serve as an interpreter for the exchange of routine information, contribute to liaison activities, and respond directly to routine queries. Collect data and other information relevant to UNHCR's operations and report findings to the supervisor. Maintain regular contact with local authorities and implementing partners as directed by the supervisor. In coordination with implementing partners, assist in the reception, registration, and provision of assistance to persons of concern to UNHCR. Regularly follow up on the overall situation of persons of concern in camps and other accommodation areas, reporting findings to the supervisor. Liaise with local authority counterparts, partners, and the populations of concern. Escalate incidents and problems to the supervisor when they cannot be resolved at their level. Support the identification and management of risks and seek opportunities impacting objectives within their area of responsibility, ensuring risk-based decision-making. Raise risks, issues, and concerns to a supervisor or relevant colleagues. Perform other related duties as required.
Work Experience
2 years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma, or 1 year of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
