Job Purpose
The Admissibility & Eligibility Clerk will support the UNHCR operation in Ecuador by assisting in the processing of asylum claims. This role is crucial for ensuring that individuals seeking international protection receive timely and accurate assessments of their eligibility for protection status. The clerk will handle administrative tasks related to the admissibility and eligibility procedures, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of UNHCR's protection mandate. This position requires meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to upholding the rights and dignity of asylum-seekers. The work involves direct interaction with vulnerable populations and requires a sensitive and professional approach.
Responsibilities
The Admissibility & Eligibility Clerk will be responsible for providing administrative support to the admissibility and eligibility unit. This includes managing case files, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurately recorded, and maintaining confidentiality. The clerk will assist in the initial screening of asylum applications, verifying that all required information and supporting documents are submitted. They will also be involved in scheduling interviews for asylum seekers, communicating with applicants regarding their case status, and responding to basic inquiries. Furthermore, the role entails data entry into UNHCR’s case management systems, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of information. The clerk will support the preparation of reports and statistics related to admissibility and eligibility processes. They may also assist in organizing and archiving case files, both physical and digital. Adherence to UNHCR’s standard operating procedures and guidelines for processing asylum claims is paramount. The position requires close collaboration with protection officers and other team members to ensure a cohesive and efficient workflow.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant administrative or clerical experience is required. Experience working with vulnerable populations or in a humanitarian context is desirable.
