Job Purpose
The Admissibility & Eligibility Clerk plays a crucial role in supporting UNHCR's mandate by ensuring the accurate and efficient processing of asylum claims. This position is vital for maintaining the integrity of the asylum system and upholding the rights of individuals seeking international protection. The Clerk will be responsible for reviewing applications, verifying documentation, and determining eligibility based on established criteria. This role directly contributes to UNHCR's efforts to provide protection and assistance to vulnerable populations, ensuring that those in need receive timely and appropriate support. Responsibilities
The Admissibility & Eligibility Clerk will be responsible for a range of tasks critical to the processing of asylum claims. This includes meticulously reviewing incoming applications to ensure completeness and accuracy, verifying the authenticity of submitted documents, and cross-referencing information against established databases and guidelines. The Clerk will assess whether applications meet the preliminary admissibility criteria set forth by UNHCR and national legislation, flagging any discrepancies or missing information for further review. They will also be responsible for determining the initial eligibility of applicants for specific UNHCR programs and services, based on defined criteria and policies. This involves accurately recording all case details, decisions, and actions taken in the relevant case management system. The Clerk will also assist in preparing reports on caseloads, processing times, and eligibility trends, and will liaunt with other UNHCR units and external partners as needed to gather information or clarify case details. Maintaining strict confidentiality and adhering to data protection protocols are paramount in all aspects of this role.
Work Experience
A minimum of 1-2 years of relevant work experience in refugee status determination, asylum procedures, or a similar role within a humanitarian or legal context. Experience with case management systems is highly desirable.
