Organizational Context

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is mandated to lead and coordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. Its primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees. UNHCR ensures that everyone can exercise their right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another State, with the option to return home voluntarily, integrate locally or resettle in a third country.

Job Purpose

The Programme Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing and managing various aspects of UNHCR's operations in Ecuador. This role involves coordinating activities, ensuring effective implementation of programmes, and contributing to the protection and well-being of refugees and displaced persons. The coordinator will work closely with internal teams and external partners to achieve UNHCR's objectives, focusing on delivering essential services and support. The position requires a strategic approach to programme development and management, ensuring alignment with UNHCR's global mandate and operational priorities. The aim is to enhance the impact of UNHCR's interventions and foster durable solutions for the populations of concern.

Responsibilities

The Programme Coordinator will be instrumental in the planning, execution, and monitoring of UNHCR's programmes in Ecuador. This includes developing project proposals, managing budgets, and ensuring timely delivery of activities. The role involves coordinating with government counterparts, implementing partners, and other stakeholders to foster collaboration and enhance programme effectiveness. The coordinator will also be responsible for assessing needs, identifying gaps, and recommending appropriate interventions to address the challenges faced by refugees and displaced persons. Furthermore, the position requires regular reporting on programme progress, challenges, and achievements to senior management and relevant stakeholders. The Programme Coordinator will contribute to advocacy efforts, aiming to promote refugee rights and access to services. This includes ensuring that programmes are implemented in line with UNHCR's standards and best practices, with a strong focus on protection and accountability to affected populations. The role also entails capacity building of staff and partners to enhance the overall delivery of humanitarian assistance.

Work Experience

Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in programme management, humanitarian affairs, or a related field.
