Organizational Context
The Livelihood and Economic Inclusion Assistant will support UNHCR's livelihoods team in operationalizing the Global Compact on Refugees (GCR). This role aims to strengthen refugee self-reliance and ease pressure on host countries by fostering collaboration with partners, government agencies, the private sector, and financial service providers to enhance economic inclusion.
Job Purpose
The Livelihood and Economic Inclusion Assistant will support the operationalization of UNHCR's strategic vision for livelihoods and economic inclusion, aligning with the Global Compact on Refugees (GCR). This involves mobilizing diverse actors and adopting a whole-of-society approach to enhance the self-reliance of persons of concern (PoC) and host community members. The role contributes to the unit's objectives under the supervision of the (Senior) Livelihood and Economic Inclusion Officer. Key functions include fostering collaboration with UNHCR livelihoods partners, government agencies, private sector entities, and financial service providers to improve economic inclusion. The assistant will also support cross-cutting areas such as protection, education, cash assistance, partnerships, research, GBV, solutions, and complementary pathways. Additionally, the role involves documenting best practices, results, and generating knowledge by working with UNHCR databases and facilitating information sharing among humanitarian, developmental, and governmental stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Support partnerships with relevant stakeholders to enhance the economic inclusion of UNHCR's Persons of Concern (PoC). Collaborate with the multi-functional team, particularly the Protection Unit, to gather information on the legal framework governing the right to work and rights at work. Contribute to the implementation of socioeconomic surveys to inform targeting, monitoring, and facilitate engagement with development programs. Work closely with relevant teams to provide assistance on livelihoods interventions. Assist in the preparation of field reports and other relevant reports concerning livelihoods, making recommendations to the designated officer for interventions that promote refugee economic inclusion. Help organize meetings, workshops, and working sessions. Support the identification and management of risks, seeking opportunities that impact the area of responsibility, and ensuring risk-based decision-making. Escalate risks, issues, and concerns to a supervisor or relevant colleagues. Perform other related duties as required. This includes assisting in mobilizing refugees of diverse ages, genders, and backgrounds, ensuring stakeholders understand the potential of economic inclusion for refugees and host communities, and communicating opportunities to PoC.
Work Experience
1 year of relevant experience is required for G4 level with a High School Diploma. Experience working with vulnerable and marginalized groups in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, ideally in varied field contexts, is essential. Experience partnering with the private sector, NGOs, UN organizations, development actors, or government authorities is also essential.
