The Senior Durable Solutions Assistant reports to a Durable Solutions Associate or Officer, contributing to the implementation of a durable solutions strategy. This role involves fostering partnerships and strengthening the involvement of refugee communities and their hosts in designing and implementing solutions, aligning with UNHCR's core values and operational framework.
Job Purpose
The Senior Durable Solutions Assistant is responsible for providing crucial support in implementing UNHCR's durable solutions strategy. This involves direct engagement with refugees and persons of concern (POC) through counselling on their needs and facilitating access to appropriate solutions such as voluntary repatriation, local integration, or resettlement. The role requires meticulous documentation, data management, and reporting to ensure timely processing and accurate information sharing with relevant authorities and partners. By preparing necessary documentation and advising on durable solutions, the incumbent plays a vital role in ensuring that POC receive the support and documentation required for their successful transition, contributing to UNHCR's mandate of protecting and assisting displaced populations.
Responsibilities
The Senior Durable Solutions Assistant provides direct counselling to refugees and persons of concern (POC) regarding their durable solutions needs, including voluntary repatriation, local integration, and resettlement. This involves conducting interviews to assess eligibility and preparing comprehensive documentation for onward submission to local authorities or partners, adhering strictly to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for each solution pathway. The role includes actively participating in the identification of resettlement needs and assisting in the maintenance and updating of electronic databases for resettlement, voluntary repatriation, and local integration. A key responsibility is ensuring that POC receive the necessary documents for their durable solutions in a timely manner. The incumbent is also tasked with preparing statistical and ad-hoc reports to ensure accurate information is available and shared with relevant offices and partners. Furthermore, the role involves entering information into available databases in line with SOPs, supporting the identification and management of risks, and seizing opportunities that impact the area of responsibility. This includes raising risks, issues, and concerns to supervisors or colleagues, and performing other related duties as required to support the overall objectives of the durable solutions program.
Work Experience
2 years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma, or 1 year of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent or higher.
