Organizational Context
The Data Management Associate, supervised by a professional staff member, works with considerable independence. The role involves collaboration with colleagues for work plans and external contact with national and local authorities for data exchange. Job Purpose
The Data Management Associate is responsible for the effective use, maintenance, and technical support of databases within the Operation. This includes planning and overseeing data collection, input, and verification processes, as well as generating standard and ad-hoc reports and statistical analyses for management. The role also involves providing training to UNHCR staff and implementing partners on data management best practices. Additionally, the Associate may coordinate with GIS colleagues to ensure data compatibility, manage database security, perform administrator functions, and assist in the development of new applications and databases to support operational tasks. The position ensures client databases are up-to-date, accurate, and accessible, and may support registration and voluntary repatriation activities, including ProGres technical support and data reconciliation.
Responsibilities
Manage the use, maintenance, and technical support of databases, including planning and overseeing data collection, input, and verification. Produce standard and ad-hoc reports, and generate statistical reports, charts, and tables as required by management. Provide training to UNHCR staff and implementing partners on data management aspects. Coordinate with GIS colleagues to ensure data collection compatibility with GIS. Archive and back up database systems, ensure database security, and perform database administrator functions. Assist in the development of new applications and databases needed by UNHCR Offices/Units to facilitate their tasks. Ensure clients' databases are up-to-date by identifying and maintaining relevant and accurate information in an accessible manner. Support registration activities, including ProGres technical support and on-site assistance. Support voluntary repatriation activities, including reconciliation of VolRep data, verification of Voluntary Repatriation Forms, and coordination with VolRep Centers on information issues. Develop forms and tools for data collection and analysis. Ensure access to relevant data and records. Support the identification and management of risks and opportunities impacting the area of responsibility, making risk-based decisions and escalating issues to supervisors. Perform other related duties as required.
Work Experience
3 years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma, or 2 years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
