Job Purpose

The Senior Protection Associate will be responsible for supporting the implementation of protection activities within UNHCR's operations in Turkiye. This role involves contributing to the development and execution of protection strategies, ensuring the rights and well-being of refugees and asylum-seekers are upheld. The incumbent will work closely with government counterparts, implementing partners, and other stakeholders to address protection challenges and advocate for the needs of vulnerable populations. Key responsibilities include conducting protection monitoring, providing case management support, and contributing to policy development and implementation. The Senior Protection Associate will play a crucial role in ensuring that UNHCR's protection mandate is effectively delivered on the ground, fostering an environment of safety and respect for all persons of concern.

Responsibilities

The Senior Protection Associate will be instrumental in the day-to-day implementation of protection activities, contributing to the development and execution of protection strategies and programming. This includes conducting protection monitoring and analysis to identify protection needs and risks faced by refugees and asylum-seekers. The role involves providing direct support to individuals and families, including case management, psychosocial support referrals, and assistance with access to essential services. The incumbent will also engage with government authorities, implementing partners, and other UN agencies to coordinate protection efforts and advocate for the rights and needs of persons of concern. Furthermore, the Senior Protection Associate will contribute to the development of protection policies and guidelines, ensuring their effective implementation and adherence to international standards. This position requires active participation in inter-agency coordination meetings, contributing to joint protection initiatives and reporting. The role also involves capacity building of staff and partners on protection principles and procedures, and ensuring that protection is mainstreamed across all UNHCR activities. The Senior Protection Associate will be responsible for maintaining accurate and confidential records of protection cases and activities, and contributing to protection reporting.

Work Experience

Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in protection, refugee status determination, or related areas.
