Job Purpose
The Senior RSD Assistant will support the implementation of UNHCR's mandate by assisting in the registration and processing of asylum seekers and refugees. This role is crucial in ensuring that individuals seeking international protection receive timely and fair assessment of their claims. The incumbent will contribute to the overall protection activities within the country operation, focusing on the Refugee Status Determination (RSD) process. This involves conducting interviews, preparing case documentation, and providing support to vulnerable individuals. The position requires a commitment to upholding the principles of refugee law and UNHCR's standards, ensuring that all activities are conducted with dignity, respect, and confidentiality. The Senior RSD Assistant will play a key role in maintaining accurate records and contributing to the evidence base for protection interventions.
Responsibilities
Conduct registration interviews with asylum seekers and refugees, gathering essential information for their protection needs and RSD claims.
Assist in the assessment of asylum claims by preparing case files, summarizing interview notes, and drafting recommendations for RSD decisions.
Provide direct assistance and support to vulnerable asylum seekers and refugees, including those with specific needs, ensuring their access to services and information.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all RSD activities, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality in line with UNHCR standards.
Conduct follow-up actions on RSD cases, including verification of information and communication with relevant stakeholders.
Support the implementation of RSD standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure adherence to UNHCR guidelines and policies.
Contribute to the training and mentoring of junior RSD staff and implementing partners, as required.
Participate in protection monitoring activities and identify protection gaps and trends within the refugee population.
Liaise with other UNHCR units, government authorities, and implementing partners to ensure a coordinated approach to refugee protection and assistance.
Assist in the preparation of reports on RSD activities and protection trends for management and external stakeholders.
Ensure that all activities are conducted in a gender-sensitive and age-appropriate manner, respecting the dignity and rights of all individuals.
Work Experience
Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in refugee status determination, protection, or related humanitarian field.
