Job Purpose
The Livelihood and Economic Inclusion Associate will contribute to UNHCR's efforts in Rwanda by supporting refugees and host communities in enhancing their economic self-reliance and inclusion. This role is crucial in fostering sustainable livelihoods, promoting access to economic opportunities, and strengthening the resilience of vulnerable populations. The Associate will work to integrate livelihood strategies into broader protection and solutions frameworks, ensuring that economic empowerment contributes to overall well-being and dignity. By facilitating access to skills development, financial services, and employment opportunities, the position aims to reduce dependency on humanitarian assistance and promote social cohesion between refugees and host communities. The ultimate goal is to empower individuals and communities to build a better future for themselves.
Responsibilities
The Livelihood and Economic Inclusion Associate will be responsible for implementing and monitoring livelihood projects aimed at enhancing economic self-reliance among refugees and host communities in Rwanda. This includes identifying opportunities for skills development, vocational training, and entrepreneurship support, as well as facilitating access to financial services and markets. The Associate will conduct needs assessments to understand the specific economic challenges and opportunities within the refugee and host community settings. They will also be involved in developing partnerships with local businesses, NGOs, and government agencies to create employment and income-generating opportunities. Monitoring the progress and impact of livelihood interventions, collecting relevant data, and preparing regular reports on project activities and outcomes will be a key part of the role. Furthermore, the Associate will contribute to the integration of livelihood considerations into UNHCR's overall protection strategy and programming, ensuring that economic inclusion is a core component of refugee assistance and solutions. This involves advocating for policies that support refugee economic participation and working to overcome barriers to their inclusion in the national economy.
Work Experience
At least two years of relevant professional experience in economic development, livelihoods programming, or a related field, preferably in a humanitarian or development context.
