Organizational Context

The Driver is supervised by the Administrative Officer/Associate/Assistant or another staff member in the UNHCR Office. The role involves driving UNHCR vehicles for passengers and goods, performing vehicle maintenance, and adhering to security guidelines. The incumbent has regular contact with internal staff and external partners, government authorities, and others, involving limited information exchange.

Job Purpose

The Driver's primary role is to operate UNHCR vehicles for transporting authorized passengers, delivering and collecting documents, and other items. This includes meeting official personnel at airports and facilitating immigration and customs procedures. A key responsibility is the daily maintenance of assigned vehicles, ensuring they are roadworthy and meet security standards by checking essential components like oil, water, brakes, and tires. The Driver also performs minor repairs, arranges for necessary servicing, and maintains vehicle cleanliness. In the event of an accident, the Driver must follow all required procedures and regulations. Accurate logging of trips, mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance is essential. The Driver must strictly adhere to all instructions and security guidance provided by supervisors and security focal points, ensuring the safe transport of passengers and goods while maintaining vehicle integrity and compliance with organizational policies.

Responsibilities

The Driver is responsible for operating UNHCR vehicles to transport authorized passengers, deliver and collect documents, and other items as required. This includes meeting official personnel at airports or other locations and assisting with immigration and customs formalities. A significant part of the role involves performing daily maintenance of assigned UNHCR vehicles, which includes checking oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires to ensure they are roadworthy and meet established security standards. The Driver will also undertake minor repairs, arrange for more extensive repairs when needed, and ensure the vehicle is kept clean at all times. In the event of an accident, the Driver must ensure that all necessary steps are taken in accordance with rules, regulations, and local procedures. Maintaining accurate logs of official trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, oil changes, and greasing is crucial. The Driver must strictly follow all instructions and security guidance provided by the supervisor and the security focal point. Additionally, the Driver is responsible for ensuring that all necessary documentation for passengers, items, or cargo within the vehicle is valid. The role also includes supporting the identification and management of risks and opportunities impacting the area of responsibility, making risk-based decisions, and reporting any risks, issues, or concerns to a supervisor or relevant colleague. Other related duties as required will also be performed.
