External Relations Intern

Job Purpose
The External Relations Intern will support the External Relations team in various activities aimed at strengthening UNHCR's engagement with external stakeholders, including governments, civil society, and the private sector. The intern will assist in monitoring and analyzing the political, social, and economic context in Kuwait, contributing to the development of effective communication and advocacy strategies. This role involves researching and drafting materials for donor engagement, public information campaigns, and partnership development. The intern will gain practical experience in international relations, humanitarian affairs, and public diplomacy within a leading UN agency. The position offers an opportunity to contribute to UNHCR's mandate of protecting refugees and finding durable solutions for their plight, while developing professional skills in a dynamic and challenging environment.
Responsibilities
Assist in monitoring and analyzing the political, social, and economic environment in Kuwait relevant to UNHCR's mandate and operations. Support the External Relations team in developing and implementing communication and advocacy strategies to enhance UNHCR's visibility and impact. Conduct research and gather information on potential donors, partners, and relevant stakeholders in Kuwait. Draft and edit various communication materials, including press releases, social media content, briefing notes, and reports, ensuring accuracy and adherence to UNHCR's branding guidelines. Provide logistical and administrative support for external relations activities, such as meetings, events, and workshops. Assist in managing and updating contact databases and stakeholder engagement records. Contribute to the preparation of funding proposals and donor reports by gathering relevant data and information. Support the team in organizing public awareness campaigns and events to promote refugee issues and UNHCR's work. Help in identifying opportunities for partnership development with local organizations, government entities, and the private sector. Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions on strategy and operational planning. Ensure timely follow-up on action points and commitments made during stakeholder engagements. Assist in the preparation of presentations and materials for senior management and external audiences.
Work Experience
Previous internship or volunteer experience in an international organization, NGO, or government agency is an asset. Familiarity with the refugee context is desirable.
