Job Purpose

Responsibilities
The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Associate will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of UNHCR's mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) strategy. This includes supporting the delivery of individual and group counseling sessions, psychoeducation, and recreational activities designed to promote well-being and coping mechanisms among refugees and other persons of concern. The Associate will conduct initial psychosocial assessments to identify individuals requiring specialized support and facilitate timely referrals to UNHCR’s health partners or other relevant service providers. They will also play a role in community-based outreach activities, engaging with community leaders and members to raise awareness about mental health issues and available support services. Furthermore, the Associate will assist in the collection and reporting of MHPSS data, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to ethical guidelines. This involves maintaining accurate records of activities, client interactions, and referral pathways. The role may also involve supporting the training and capacity building of community volunteers or focal points involved in MHPSS initiatives, contributing to a sustainable and community-driven approach to mental health care within the refugee population.
Work Experience
Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in mental health, psychosocial support, or social work, preferably in a humanitarian or refugee context. Experience in direct client interaction and case management is required.
