Senior Field Assistant
Organizational Context
The Senior Field Assistant is supervised by a Field Officer/Associate and performs various field activities. The role involves frequent internal contact with colleagues and external contact with national/international officials, refugee leaders, local populations, and Implementing Partners (IPs) on routine matters, under supervisor direction.
Job Purpose
The Senior Field Assistant supports UNHCR's field operations by assisting in the monitoring of programme implementation, including the delivery of assistance and infrastructure. This role involves crucial administrative tasks such as report preparation and facilitating field missions for authorized personnel. A key function is acting as an interpreter for routine information exchange, contributing to liaison activities, and directly responding to queries. The incumbent is responsible for collecting and reporting relevant data and information to the supervisor. They maintain regular contact with local authorities and implementing partners, and assist in the reception, registration, and provision of assistance to persons of concern in coordination with IPs. The role also involves regularly following up on the situation of persons of concern and reporting findings.
Responsibilities
Assist in monitoring the implementation of UNHCR programmes, including the delivery of all assistance items and monitoring of infrastructure. Undertake administrative tasks such as preparing reports and assisting authorized personnel during field missions. Serve as an interpreter for routine information exchange, contribute to liaison activities, and respond directly to routine queries. Collect data and other information relevant to UNHCR and report to the supervisor. Maintain regular contact with local authorities and implementing partners as requested by the supervisor. In coordination with implementing partners, assist in the reception, registration, and provision of assistance to persons of concern to UNHCR. Regularly follow up on the overall situation of persons of concern in camps and other accommodation areas and report accordingly. Liaise with local authority counterparts, partners, and populations of concern. Escalate incidents and problems to the supervisor when they cannot be resolved at their level. Support the identification and management of risks and seek to seize opportunities impacting objectives in the area of responsibility, ensuring risk-based decision-making. Raise risks, issues, and concerns to a supervisor or relevant colleagues. Perform other related duties as required.
Work Experience
2 years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma, or 1 year of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
