Job Purpose
The Senior Driver will be responsible for providing safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services to UNHCR staff and authorized personnel. This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of field activities and the timely delivery of essential services and supplies to beneficiaries. The Senior Driver will operate various UNHCR vehicles, adhering strictly to traffic laws, safety regulations, and organizational policies. They will also be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of assigned vehicles, ensuring they are in optimal working condition at all times. This position requires a high degree of professionalism, discretion, and a commitment to supporting UNHCR's mandate in assisting refugees and displaced persons.
Responsibilities
The Senior Driver will be responsible for operating UNHCR vehicles in a safe and courteous manner, adhering to all traffic laws and UNHCR safety protocols. This includes driving staff, consultants, and other authorized personnel to various locations within the area of responsibility, as well as transporting goods and materials. The incumbent will ensure the vehicle is kept clean, both inside and out, and that it is in good mechanical condition, performing daily checks on tires, brakes, lights, and other essential components. Any defects or malfunctions must be reported immediately to the supervisor. The Senior Driver will maintain a vehicle logbook, accurately recording all mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities. They will also be responsible for ensuring that the vehicle is properly secured when not in use and that all personal belongings and UNHCR property are safely stored. In addition, the Senior Driver may be required to assist with basic maintenance tasks, coordinate with mechanics for repairs, and ensure that all vehicle-related documentation, such as insurance and registration, is up-to-date. The role may also involve assisting with loading and unloading of cargo and providing support to other operational activities as needed, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to contribute to the team's overall objectives.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of relevant professional driving experience is required. Experience driving in challenging conditions or for international organizations is an advantage.
