Organizational Context
The Senior Field Assistant operates under the supervision of a Field Officer/Associate, performing various field activities. The role involves frequent internal communication with colleagues and external engagement with national/international officials, refugee leaders, local populations, and Implementing Partners (IPs) on routine matters, as directed by the supervisor.
Job Purpose
The Senior Field Assistant is responsible for supporting the implementation of UNHCR's programs, ensuring the effective delivery of assistance and monitoring of infrastructure. This role involves assisting with administrative tasks, including report preparation and facilitating field missions for authorized personnel. A key function is acting as an interpreter for routine information exchange, contributing to liaison activities, and responding to standard queries. The incumbent will collect and report relevant data and information to the supervisor, maintain regular contact with local authorities and IPs as requested, and assist in the reception, registration, and provision of assistance to persons of concern in coordination with IPs. The role also requires regular follow-up on the situation of persons of concern in camps and accommodation areas, reporting findings, and liaising with local counterparts, partners, and the populations of concern.
Responsibilities
Assist in monitoring the implementation of UNHCR programmes, including the delivery of all assistance items and monitoring of infrastructure. Undertake administrative tasks such as preparing reports and assisting authorized personnel during field missions. Serve as an interpreter for routine information exchange, contribute to liaison activities, and respond to standard queries. Collect and report data and information relevant to UNHCR to the supervisor. Maintain regular contact with local authorities and implementing partners as directed by the supervisor. In coordination with implementing partners, assist in the reception, registration, and provision of assistance to persons of concern to UNHCR. Regularly follow up on the overall situation of persons of concern in camps and other accommodation areas, reporting findings. Liaise with local authority counterparts, partners, and populations of concern. Escalate incidents and problems to the supervisor when they cannot be resolved at their level. Support the identification and management of risks and seek opportunities impacting objectives, ensuring risk-based decision-making. Raise risks, issues, and concerns to a supervisor or relevant colleagues. Perform other related duties as required.
Work Experience
2 years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma, or 1 year of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
