Associate Donor Relations Officer
Organizational Context
The Associate Donor Relations Officer is part of a team responsible for maintaining dialogue with governmental donors, UN agencies, and regional/local donors. The role aims to build relationships, raise awareness, and mobilize political and financial support for UNHCR's priorities. This position is based in a Regional Bureau, supporting field operations.
Job Purpose
The Associate Donor Relations Officer plays a crucial role in fostering and strengthening partnerships with donors to secure political and financial support for UNHCR's work. The incumbent will proactively engage with governmental donors and other organizations, providing them with essential information about UNHCR's operations and financial needs. A key aspect of the role involves identifying and pursuing new funding opportunities aligned with UNHCR's strategies. This includes assisting in the preparation of proposals, briefing materials, and correspondence for senior management to facilitate negotiations and follow-up on contributions. The officer will also monitor and track donor contributions, ensuring compliance with requirements and supporting fundraising strategies at regional and country levels.
Responsibilities
Assist in maintaining regular dialogue with donor governments and UN agencies, providing comprehensive information on UNHCR's operations and financial requirements, and responding to ad hoc information requests. Stay informed about UNHCR's global operations, particularly high-profile and emergency situations, to effectively address donor inquiries. Identify and explore new donor engagement and funding avenues in line with organizational strategies. Draft internal and external correspondence, including briefing notes for senior management to support donor negotiations and contribution follow-ups. Assist in the implementation and review of donor engagement strategies and maintain up-to-date donor profiles and plans. Monitor, record, and track donor contributions, ensuring all donor requirements are met. Collaborate with relevant UNHCR offices and divisions to prepare funding submissions and provide necessary information to potential donors. Support Bureaux and Country Operations in developing fundraising strategies aligned with organizational directions. Organize meetings and bilateral consultations with donor governments as required. Prepare reports using UNHCR's information management systems, ensuring timeliness and efficiency. Provide editorial support for fundraising publications, including appeals and reports. Offer guidance and support to field operations regarding engagement in Refugee Response Plans and Humanitarian Response Plans, and advise on UNHCR's involvement in humanitarian financing discussions. Perform regional focal point duties, including compiling funding-related information and background notes for senior management. Support risk management by identifying and addressing potential issues impacting donor relations objectives.
Work Experience
Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience with an undergraduate degree, or 2 years with a graduate degree, or 1 year with a doctorate. Essential experience includes external engagement with donors, UN agencies, partners, and governments. Experience in field operations and knowledge of UNHCR's operational arrangements, relief programs, funding needs, and priorities are crucial.
