Job Purpose
The Senior PPH Assistant will support the Protection and Population Section (PPS) in its mandate to protect and assist refugees and other persons of concern. This role involves assisting in the implementation of protection activities, including registration, case management, and community-based protection initiatives. The incumbent will contribute to ensuring that the rights and well-being of refugees are upheld, and that appropriate durable solutions are pursued. This position requires a proactive approach to identifying protection needs and challenges, and a commitment to working collaboratively with refugees, partners, and government authorities to address them effectively. The Senior PPH Assistant will play a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of the protection unit, ensuring efficient service delivery and adherence to UNHCR standards and policies.
Responsibilities
Assist in the implementation of protection activities, including registration, case management, and community-based protection initiatives. Support the monitoring of the protection situation of refugees and other persons of concern, identifying protection gaps and emerging needs. Contribute to the development and implementation of protection strategies and action plans. Provide direct assistance to refugees and other persons of concern, including information dissemination, counseling, and referral services. Assist in the organization and facilitation of protection-related meetings, workshops, and training sessions. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of protection activities and case management. Support the preparation of protection reports, including situation reports, needs assessments, and statistical data. Liaise with implementing partners, government authorities, and other stakeholders to coordinate protection activities and ensure effective service delivery. Assist in the identification and referral of vulnerable individuals requiring specialized support, such as survivors of sexual and gender-based violence, unaccompanied minors, and individuals with disabilities. Contribute to the promotion of refugee participation and empowerment in protection processes. Ensure adherence to UNHCR’s age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) policy in all protection activities. Support the development and dissemination of information materials on protection issues and rights. Assist in the follow-up of protection cases and ensure timely resolution. Participate in field missions to assess protection needs and monitor the implementation of protection activities. Contribute to the overall functioning of the Protection and Population Section by performing other related duties as required.
Work Experience
Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in protection, refugee status determination, or related field.
