Job Purpose
The Software Specialist will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining software solutions to support UNHCR's operations. This role involves collaborating with various departments to understand their needs and translate them into functional software applications. The specialist will contribute to the design, coding, testing, and deployment of software, ensuring it meets high standards of quality, security, and performance. The position aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of UNHCR's information systems, thereby improving the delivery of services to refugees and displaced persons. The specialist will also be involved in troubleshooting and providing technical support for existing software, as well as exploring and recommending new technologies to advance UNHCR's mission.
Responsibilities
Develop, test, and deploy high-quality software solutions that align with UNHCR's strategic objectives and operational requirements. Collaborate with stakeholders across different units to gather requirements, analyze needs, and design user-friendly and efficient software applications. Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code, adhering to best practices in software development. Conduct thorough testing of software components and integrated systems to identify and resolve defects, ensuring reliability and performance. Provide technical support and troubleshooting for existing software systems, addressing user issues and implementing necessary updates or patches. Contribute to the design and architecture of new software projects, evaluating technical feasibility and recommending appropriate technologies. Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and knowledge sharing within the team. Document software designs, processes, and user guides to facilitate understanding and maintenance. Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating their potential application within UNHCR to enhance operational capabilities. Assist in the migration of legacy systems to modern platforms, ensuring data integrity and minimal disruption to services.
Work Experience
A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in software development, including experience with programming languages, database management, and software development methodologies. Experience in a humanitarian or international organization is an advantage.
