Organizational Context
The Driver is supervised by the Administrative Officer/Associate/Assistant or another staff member in the UNHCR Office. The role involves driving UNHCR vehicles for official purposes, ensuring vehicle maintenance, and adhering to security guidelines. The Driver interacts with internal staff and external stakeholders, exchanging limited information.
Job Purpose
The Driver's primary purpose is to operate UNHCR vehicles safely and efficiently for transporting authorized personnel, documents, and other items. This includes ensuring the vehicle is roadworthy through regular maintenance, performing minor repairs, and maintaining cleanliness. The Driver is responsible for adhering to all driving rules, regulations, and security instructions provided by supervisors. They will also facilitate the movement of official personnel, including airport pickups and customs procedures. A key aspect of the role is meticulous record-keeping of trips, mileage, and fuel consumption. The Driver must ensure all passengers and cargo have the necessary documentation and support risk management by identifying and reporting potential issues to their supervisor, contributing to the overall operational objectives.
Responsibilities
Drive UNHCR vehicles for the transport of authorized passengers, deliver, and collect documents and other items. Meet official personnel at airports or other locations and facilitate immigration and customs formalities as required. Perform day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, including checking oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires, to ensure roadworthiness and adherence to security standards. Perform minor repairs and arrange for other necessary repairs, ensuring the vehicle remains clean. Follow established procedures in case of involvement in a vehicle accident. Maintain accurate logs of official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, and greasing. Strictly adhere to instructions and security guidance from the supervisor and security focal point. Ensure that passengers, items, or cargo in the vehicle have valid documentation. Support the identification and management of risks and seek opportunities impacting the area of responsibility, making risk-based decisions. Raise risks, issues, and concerns to a supervisor or relevant colleagues. Perform other related duties as required.
