Job Purpose
The Interpreter Assistant is responsible for providing crucial translation and interpretation services to support UNHCR's operations in Bangkok. This role involves interpreting from various written materials such as newspapers and reports, as well as facilitating oral communication during meetings, discussions, and interviews, particularly with high-ranking officials and diplomats. The incumbent will also accompany international staff on field missions to provide interpretation and other necessary assistance. Additionally, the Interpreter Assistant will be responsible for arranging meetings, taking minutes, and assisting official personnel with immigration and customs procedures. This position plays a vital role in ensuring smooth communication and operational efficiency within the UNHCR office and in its interactions with external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
The Interpreter Assistant will perform a range of duties to support UNHCR's communication needs. Key responsibilities include interpreting and translating written documents such as newspapers, reports, and magazines. The incumbent will also interpret oral conversations, discussions, and interviews, especially during meetings involving high-ranking officials and diplomats. Travel with international staff on field missions for interpretation and other support is a significant part of the role. The Interpreter Assistant will be tasked with arranging internal and external meetings, including those with senior officials, and will be responsible for taking minutes or notes. Facilitating immigration and customs formalities for official personnel arriving at the airport is another duty. The role also involves responding to queries related to the area of responsibility and supporting the identification and management of risks, seizing opportunities, and raising concerns to supervisors. Performing other related duties as required is also expected.
Work Experience
1 year of relevant experience is required for candidates with a High School Diploma. Experience involving frequent contacts for exchanging a wide range of information, some of which may be complex, is essential.
