Programme Analyst Consultancy
Organizational Context
This role is a consultancy within UNFPA, a UN agency focused on sexual and reproductive health and rights. The consultant will work home-based, contributing to UNFPA's mandate of promoting gender equality and empowering women, girls, and young people by leveraging population data.
Job Purpose
The Programme Analyst Consultancy aims to provide expert support in population data analysis, demographic analysis, and applied quantitative research. The role is crucial for enhancing UNFPA's capacity to understand and utilize population data for evidence-based programming and decision-making. This involves collecting, analyzing, visualizing, and disseminating data to inform initiatives related to sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, and youth empowerment. The consultant will contribute to strengthening data management practices and providing critical insights for humanitarian response and disaster preparedness, ultimately supporting UNFPA's mission.
Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for data collection, analysis, visualization, and dissemination, along with database management and applied research within an international setting. This includes applying strong knowledge of statistical methodologies and utilizing statistical packages like R, Python, or STATA. The role involves constructing subnational population projections, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, and assessing data quality using various population and health sources. The consultant will provide guidance on data interpretation and application, especially for incomplete or deficient datasets. Experience with refugee and internal displacement data is desirable. The role also requires familiarity with mark-up languages, dashboard development tools, version control systems, and data dissemination standards to support humanitarian response and disaster preparedness efforts.
Work Experience
Experience in data collection, analysis, visualization, dissemination, and database management in an international academic or development setting. Proficiency in statistical packages (R, Python, STATA) and demographic methods is required. Experience with subnational population projections and humanitarian data is advantageous. Familiarity with UN system is desirable.
Skills
Strong knowledge of statistical methodologies and packages (R, Python, STATA). Expertise in demographic methods and data analysis techniques. Ability to provide data interpretation and guidance. Experience with data visualization, database management, and research. Familiarity with mark-up languages, dashboard tools, version control systems, and data dissemination standards is a plus. Strong interpersonal and report writing skills.
