The UNFPA Maldives Country Office seeks a Communications Intern to support strategic communications initiatives under the direct supervision of the Communications and Partnership Analyst. This role contributes to UNFPA's mandate of ensuring every pregnancy is intended, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled, aligning with the ICPD Programme of Action and Sustainable Development Goals.
Job Purpose
The Communications Intern will support the UNFPA Maldives Country Office by contributing to strategic communications initiatives, including website content, interviews, editorials, and social media management. The intern will assist in implementing the communication and advocacy strategy, fostering a beneficial learning environment to enhance skills related to UNFPA’s mandate. This role is crucial for increasing programme visibility, advocacy, and partnership efforts, contributing to UNFPA's mission of delivering a world where every pregnancy is intended, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled.
Responsibilities
The intern will support the Communications Unit's work plan by drafting and editing content for UNFPA platforms, such as news stories, human-interest pieces, website updates, briefs, captions, and social media copy. Responsibilities include collecting quotes and background information, contributing to storytelling materials, and maintaining a content calendar. The intern will assist in preparing social media posts, supporting event communications, and conducting media monitoring. Administrative tasks such as filing, formatting documents, and consolidating comments are also part of the role. This position offers practical experience in content development, media monitoring, event communications, and digital outreach.
Work Experience
Some experience working with development agencies, including volunteer capacity, is an asset. Fluency in English is required; Dhivehi language skills are advantageous. Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills are essential. Initiative, sound judgment, and digital literacy are also important.
