Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of regional midwifery mentorship programs in West and Central Africa. The evaluation will assess the effectiveness, impact, and institutionalization of these programs. The consultant will provide critical insights into the strengths and weaknesses of current mentorship approaches, identify best practices, and offer recommendations for future program development and scaling. The findings will inform UNFPA's strategies to strengthen midwifery education and capacity building, ultimately contributing to improved maternal and newborn health outcomes in the region.
Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for designing and implementing the evaluation methodology, including data collection tools and analysis plans. This involves conducting a thorough review of existing program documentation, collecting qualitative and quantitative data from stakeholders, and analyzing the effectiveness and impact of the midwifery mentorship programs. The consultant will assess the extent to which these programs have been institutionalized within local health systems and identify factors contributing to or hindering their sustainability. Key deliverables will include an inception report, draft evaluation report, and a final evaluation report with actionable recommendations.
Work Experience
Minimum of 5 years of professional experience as a recognized international researcher and practitioner in maternal health, mentoring, and the development of mentorship programs. Strong technical knowledge in midwifery education and capacity building in low-to-medium income countries is required. Knowledge of competency-based education methodologies is also necessary. Experience with UNFPA programming processes and monitoring and evaluation is an asset.
