Organizational Context
The UNFPA Supply Chain Management Unit (SCMU) is a self-funded entity established in January 2022, responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of life-saving reproductive health products and programme supplies. This role supports the Logistics Management Services (LMS) Team in global logistics operations. The consultant will report to either the Freight Team Lead or the Stock Management Team Lead, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to achieve UNFPA's mandate of ensuring every pregnancy is intended, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled.
Job Purpose
The Individual Consultant will provide essential support to the Logistics Management Services (LMS) Team, focusing on the day-to-day execution of global logistics operations. This includes managing freight, inventory, customer orders, and shipment monitoring, while ensuring compliance and accurate record-keeping. The role is critical in guaranteeing the timely, efficient, and compliant delivery of reproductive health commodities, humanitarian supplies, and other UNFPA-managed products. By contributing to continuous process improvement and business continuity within the Supply Chain Management Unit (SCMU), the consultant directly supports UNFPA's mission to deliver vital supplies where and when they are needed, reinforcing the organization's commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
Responsibilities
The Logistics Associate will support the planning, coordination, and execution of logistics operations for programme supplies, reproductive health commodities, and humanitarian aid. This involves processing customer orders, monitoring shipments, and coordinating with suppliers, freight forwarders, and partners to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery. The role includes managing inventory, supporting transportation planning, and preparing necessary shipping documentation. Additionally, the associate will maintain accurate records within UNFPA enterprise systems (ERP, CRM), contribute to performance monitoring of service providers, and ensure compliance with UNFPA policies. The position also involves participating in knowledge management initiatives, improving standard operating procedures, and collaborating across teams to ensure uninterrupted service delivery and support business continuity.
Work Experience
A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in inventory management, logistics, or humanitarian response is required; this is reduced to 3 years for candidates with a relevant university degree. Experience in managing health-related logistics, familiarity with UN procurement procedures, and proficiency with ERP systems are advantageous. Knowledge of global supply chain security, risk management, and basic understanding of sexual and reproductive health commodities are required. Strong interpersonal and project management skills are also necessary.
