Organizational Context
The Logistics Associate is part of the UNFPA Supply Chain Management Unit (SCMU) in Copenhagen, reporting to the Freight Management Associate. UNFPA is the UN agency dedicated to sexual and reproductive health, aiming to fulfill every pregnancy, childbirth, and young person's potential. The SCMU, self-funded since 2022, ensures efficient delivery of life-saving products and programme supplies globally, strengthening government and partner capacity in supply chain management.
Job Purpose
The Logistics Associate provides essential hands-on support for the day-to-day operational execution of logistics management functions. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth and efficient handling of programme supplies, reproductive health commodities, and humanitarian goods. By coordinating with various stakeholders, processing orders, and monitoring shipments, the associate directly contributes to the timely and cost-effective delivery of critical supplies to end-users, supporting UNFPA's mandate to provide essential health products and services worldwide.
Responsibilities
The role involves supporting the planning, coordination, and execution of logistics operations for programme supplies, reproductive health commodities, and humanitarian goods. This includes guiding customers on logistics processes, processing orders, and coordinating with suppliers, freight forwarders, and third-party logistics providers for timely and cost-effective delivery. The associate will monitor inventory, support transportation planning using various modes, and track shipments to final delivery, proactively addressing issues. Responsibilities also include preparing and distributing shipping documentation, maintaining accurate records in enterprise systems (ERP, CRM), and supporting performance monitoring of logistics service providers. The role contributes to knowledge management by participating in training and process improvement initiatives, and collaborates across units and with external partners to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in international logistics or stock operations. At least 2 years must be in logistics, warehousing, stock management, in-country distribution, or last-mile logistics. Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and knowledge of global supply chain security, risk management, and compliance regulations are mandatory. Experience in development or humanitarian settings in low-resource countries is a strong asset.
