Organizational Context

UNFPA is the lead UN agency focused on reproductive health, aiming to fulfill every pregnancy, ensure safe childbirth, and empower young people. This role supports the UN Joint Programme on RMNCAH in Lao PDR, working to strengthen health systems and improve access to quality services. The coordinator will report to the Programme Coordinator, contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

Job Purpose

The National Provincial Coordinator will support the Ministry of Health in Lao PDR through the United Nations Joint Programme (UNJP) on Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH). This final phase of the programme (2026-2031) focuses on integrated RMNCAH service delivery, strengthened governance, capacity building, and improved monitoring. The coordinator's role is crucial for implementing the UNJP's objectives in Savannakhet province, ensuring the effective execution of RMNCAH activities and contributing to better health outcomes for the population.

Responsibilities

The incumbent will provide technical support to the Provincial Health Office for RMNCH activities, participating in provincial and UNJP planning and review meetings. They will prepare monthly progress reports on provincial UNJP implementation and reports/minutes from coordination meetings with development partners. The role involves participating in capacity-building workshops for health workers and Village Health Volunteers, and conducting field visits to monitor progress, identify challenges, and document best practices in RMNCAH service delivery. Regular progress and monitoring reports will be submitted to the supervisor.

Work Experience

Requires at least four years of relevant experience in planning and coordinating health programs at provincial or district levels, with a focus on reproductive, maternal, and child health. Experience in community health is advantageous. Familiarity with the Lao PDR health system is essential. Experience with UN agencies or international NGOs in the health sector is an asset.
