International: Communication Intern [Japan National]

Organizational Context

The intern will support the UNFPA Pacific office in Suva, Fiji, reporting to the Communication Specialist. This role contributes to UNFPA's mandate as the lead UN agency for sexual and reproductive health and rights, and youth development. The internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain experience in communication for international development within the UN system.

Job Purpose

The Communication Intern will gain practical experience by supporting the creation and dissemination of engaging multimedia content to raise awareness of UNFPA's work in the Pacific region, focusing on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and youth development. The role involves developing content for various channels, assisting with video editing and graphic design, and managing social media. Through a structured work plan and regular progress meetings, the intern will enhance their skills and capacity in areas aligned with UNFPA's strategic objectives and the ICPD agenda.

Responsibilities

The intern will assist in developing diverse communication content, including short videos, web stories, animations, and infographics for social media, websites, and publications. Responsibilities include video editing, creating storyboards and scripts, scheduling and posting content on social media platforms, and designing visual materials for campaigns. The role also involves conducting research for multimedia resources, monitoring online conversations and audience engagement, participating in brainstorming sessions, and staying updated on SRHR and youth development issues in the Pacific.

Work Experience

Required experience includes strong visual storytelling, writing, editing, and research skills. Proficiency with video editing and graphic design software is essential. The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, coupled with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, is also necessary. Familiarity with social media platforms is required.
