National Consultant to Support Implementation of Menstrual Health and Hygiene Activities in Selected Schools and Dormitories
Organizational Context
This role is a National Consultant position supporting the implementation of Menstrual Health and Hygiene (MHH) activities within selected schools and dormitories in Mongolia. The consultant will work under the guidance of UNFPA, contributing to the organization's mandate of promoting reproductive health and rights, and gender equality. The position is based in Ulan Bator.
Job Purpose
The National Consultant will provide crucial support for the effective implementation of Menstrual Health and Hygiene (MHH) activities in schools and dormitories across Mongolia. This role is designed to enhance adolescent girls' access to essential MHH services and information, ensuring their dignity, health, and continued education. The consultant will play a key part in translating project plans into tangible actions, coordinating with various stakeholders, and ensuring that MHH interventions are sensitive to the needs of young people. The ultimate purpose is to contribute to improved MHH outcomes, fostering an environment where adolescent girls can thrive without the barriers posed by inadequate menstrual hygiene management.
Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for supporting the implementation of Menstrual Health and Hygiene (MHH) activities in selected schools and dormitories. This includes coordinating with government institutions, development partners, civil society organizations, schools, and local authorities to ensure smooth project execution. The role involves organizing and facilitating project activities, following up on agreed actions with partners, and documenting progress. The consultant will also be tasked with preparing various project-related documents, such as reports, meeting notes, guidance materials, checklists, training materials, and monitoring templates. Additionally, the consultant will support field visits, partner coordination, and monitoring activities, contributing to the overall success of UNFPA's MHH initiatives in Mongolia.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in health, education, adolescent and youth development, gender, human rights, social development, or project/programme coordination is necessary. Practical experience in supporting menstrual health and hygiene, adolescent health, school health, gender equality, or youth-focused initiatives is essential. Experience coordinating with diverse stakeholders, including government, NGOs, and educational institutions, is also required.
Skills
Strong coordination, communication, documentation, and report-writing skills are essential. The ability to work effectively with schools, dormitories, local authorities, implementing partners, young people, and community stakeholders is crucial. A good understanding of menstrual health and hygiene principles, adolescent-friendly and gender-sensitive approaches, and gender equality is required. Fluency in Mongolian is mandatory, with a working knowledge of English being an advantage.
