Job Purpose
The Chauffeur Clinique Mobile plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of personnel and supplies for UNFPA's mobile clinic operations in Mauritania. This position is vital for reaching remote and underserved populations, facilitating access to reproductive health services and other UNFPA-supported programs. The driver's ability to navigate challenging terrains and security situations directly impacts the successful implementation of field activities and the overall achievement of UNFPA's mandate in the country.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility is to drive UNFPA vehicles, including mobile clinics, safely and efficiently to various locations within Mauritania. This involves adhering to all traffic laws and UNFPA driving policies, ensuring the vehicle is maintained in good working order, and performing basic mechanical checks and repairs as needed. The chauffeur must possess a thorough knowledge of the country's security situation and road conditions, demonstrating defensive driving skills to mitigate risks. They are expected to conduct frequent field travel, maintain accurate logs of travel and fuel consumption, and assist with the loading and unloading of equipment and supplies. A strong understanding of driving protocols and maintaining good visual acuity are essential for safe operation.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of professional driving experience, particularly with off-road vehicles, is required. Experience working within the UN system or an international organization is desirable. Familiarity with the security landscape and road conditions in Mauritania is essential.
Skills
Proficiency in French is essential. Working knowledge of Arabic and English, along with national languages, is an asset. Key competencies include results-orientation, accountability, professional expertise, and teamwork. Defensive driving skills, good visual acuity, and basic mechanical aptitude are also important.
